Milestones

1. 1973 Established as a meditation retreat center

2. 1985 The first research paper by VYASA, Yoga for bronchial asthma: a controlled study was finally accepted by British Medical Journal in 1985 after three years of rigorous reviews. Since, VYASA and S-VYASA have accounted for more than 450 research papers on yoga in standard, peer-reviewed, indexed National and International journals.

3. 1988 VYASA was recognized as SIRO by DSIR since 1988, as yoga industry became more defined.

4. 1989 In 1989, VYASA qualified as research institute for Tax exemption under section 35 (i) (ii), the highest tax exemption slab for companies and individuals, allowing up to 175% exemption on taxable income. VYASA was awarded its first project grant by ICMR.

5. 1993 In 1993, VYASA was recognized as a Premier Yoga Institute in Yoga Teaching by University Grants Commission (UGC).

6. 2001 As it continued its progress in yoga research, VYASA was recognized for Yoga studies leading to PhD by Bangalore University, Mysore University, Mangalore University and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences; six candidates were awarded PhD under Faculty of Science, Bangalore University in 2001.

Subsequently, CCRYN approved yoga research projects of VYASA. Since then, VYASA has been associated with the top organizations around the world including MD Anderson Cancer Care Center Houston, Texas, NIMHANS, IISc, AIIMS, KWA Clinic, Germany, Karuna Trust and many more for yoga research.

Yoga Therapy, Yoga Education and Yoga Research have been the major aspects of the movement called VYASA. At the divine and bountiful campus of Prashanti Kutiram, Arogyadhama for Therapy, Academic Blocks for Yoga Education and Anveshana for Yoga Research were developed. Amongst other aspects, Special and Advanced Yogic Techniques have been developed by VYASA including IRT, QRT, DRT, SMET, CM, PET, MSRT, MIRT, MEMT, VISAK, and ANAMS. Corporates started benefitting with Yoga through SMET.

Thousands of yoga teachers have been trained through a unique Yoga Instructor's Course (YIC) program. Children starting 9 years and above are benefited through personality development program commonly known as PDC.

7. 2002 Finally, in 2002, Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA) which was an offshoot of VYASA but a separate society, was awarded a deemed-to university status by UGC, by virtue of being a yoga research foundation, had established high-quality research facilities; conducted robust, basic, clinical and applied research projects. Since then, S- VYASA has been reviewed and has been upgraded by UGC as an A-list University by MHRD review panel. S-VYASA has received 12(B) recognition by UGC.

8. 2007- 08 Ayurveda therapy center, Ojus was established with a collaboration of Aary Vaidya Pharma (AVP), Coimbatore Stop diabetes movement: country wide movement against the diabetes was initiated.

9. 2010 Department of Ayurveda and Naturopathy treatment center (Surabhi) established to cater the need of increasing number of Ayurveda and Naturopathy participants. ISO certification

10. 2011 S-VYASA has been assessed and accredited by NAAC in 2011 and is due for the final review in 2016. Directorate of Distance Education, S-VYASA has also been setup and approved by the UGC to run distance education programs in Yoga

11. 2015 In the month of June a nationwide stop diabetes movement called Yoga Saptaha was organized with the collaboration of Arogya Bharati.

12. 2016 Lakshimi Amma integrative hospital, planned by Dr. H R Nagendra and Dr. R Nagarathna, to avail thousand five hundred bedded complete integrated hospital. Foundation stone laid by Honorable PM Mr. Modiji, in January 2016
